Meeting with production group #8
My group came up with a new idea related to scamming/hacking where a university student was in debt. After several attempts to find a job he got the idea to use his IT skills to hack and steal footage from people's computers and sell them on the dark web in desperation for money.
The opening sequence would show the student roaming around the house on a call with his mother, discussing about his job interview, meanwhile he wonders around the house to give the audience hints of his financial issues such as the empty state of the refrigerator. The end would show him sat in front of the television while watching the news about hackers gaining money from selling people's information. The sequence would be a sort of slow burn route/video.
We decided to change the opening slightly as the feedback explained the sequence seemed to be revealing too much information. Rather than show how the student started scamming people, we decided to make him have a small team of two other people, suggesting they're already working in this dark business. Instead of showing his house, it would show a scam taking place.
Rough version of shot by shot of the opening sequence:
Background- black screen background with a typing of keyboard noise;
Shot presents three university students lined up in front of computer screens;
One of them answers a call with his headpiece- call goes on between supposed scammer and the student;
Switches to other two hackers- close ups of typing on the keyboard, finger clicking on mouse, the screen, etc.
Message pops up on the main character's phone from his mum saying something along the lines of "did you get the job";
The student puts the phone down and carries on;
The main screen suggests the "scammer" has been scammed, they took his computer screen over.
Closeup of him about to reply to his mum before another notification pops up receiving payment from the hacking operation.
